 Collaged by Lily Rose & Wylde, no two tins are identical, even those of the same named composition, thus ensuring a unique vintage-style gift to keep forever.
The tins are decorated in various ways, frequently comprising a combination of pressed flowers, handmade mulberry paper and images printed from Victorian wallpapers, vintage postcards and photographs. The papers and pressed flowers are then glued and sealed using a protective decoupage varnish which imparts a silken sheen.
For a special gift, you might wish to fill your chosen tin with something edible, practical or simply beautiful. For instance, some handmade chocolates, cocoa dusted almonds, crystallised edible flowers, essential oils, little handmade soaps, vintage buttons, embroidery threads, or jewellery. The possibilities are endless!
Our tins also make delightful containers in which to keep dried flower petals and rosebuds - perhaps to be used as natural confetti, or for scattering over the dining table to create a romantic setting.
The tins are a little larger, and thus more expensive, than those usually sold as containers for wedding or party favours. However, you might still consider using the tins for such purposes; for even when presented empty (aside from the acid-free tissue paper and a few dried rosebuds or a pressed leaf we put in each tin) they make beautiful gifts in their own right.
The gold-lacquered tins we are decorating at the moment have never been used before. Nevertheless, it's important to mention that some of them have become slightly distressed on the exterior due to age - tiny flecks of gold lacquer having scraped off here and there. The inside of each tin, however, retains its newness. Rest assured, there is no sign of rust on any of the tins, for the lacquer is only a superficial coating over aluminium.
In our opinion, the subtly distressed look found on the exterior of some tins - often barely perceptible to the naked eye - merely adds to their vintage character.
