 Made by master weavers Thomas Ferguson, this is a medium weight, finely woven plain linen fabric woven from high quality flax fibres and is available in both oyster white and natural flax/ecru. It has an excellent drape and soft texture and is ideal for making such items as table linen, bed spreads, curtains and cushion covers.
If preferred, the linen fabric can be dyed at home using a low temperature (40 degrees C.) product suitable for dyeing cotton and linen fabrics in the washing machine. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
As with all natural fabrics, there will be some shrinkage after the first wash. When making curtains, for example, please allow an extra 5-10 cm hem length to account for any natural shrinkage after laundering.
Care of Pure Linen Fabrics
For general care of your pure Irish linen, we recommend that it's machine washed at 40-50 degrees C. using a gentle eco-friendly laundry product like Ecover Laundry Liquid. Such products are free of chlorine bleach and optical whiteners, both of which tend to weaken linen fabrics if used frequently. Pure linen should always be ironed whilst still slightly damp. Please don't tumble dry your Irish linen as this will result in deep creases, thus making the fabric very difficult to iron.
When shopping around to find the best prices for pure linen fabrics, don't forget that this linen is extra wide at 183cm, which is almost 6ft.
How to Obtain Fabric Swatches
We have a limited supply of plain linen fabric swatches available. However, additional swatches of the full range of Thomas Ferguson linen fabrics, including damask table linens, are obtainable directly from the weavers in Northern Ireland. They normally make a charge for fabric swatches, although when you subsequently purchase your fabrics by the metre from Lily Rose & Wylde you will benefit from our generously discounted prices.
