Apologies we've now exhausted the supply of this beautiful lace. Please contact us before placing an order for this design to request images of an alternative antique French lace. We are hoping to acquire a batch of similar 1920s French tulle lace before the end of May.
This design is strictly limited edition - very few books can ever be made in exactly the same way as there is only a limited supply of this gorgeous antique lace which was made in Calais in the 1920s. In choosing this design, you will have an extra special book embellished with antique French lace beloved by collectors - and thus, a guest book of heirloom quality.
We've named this enchanting wedding guest book "Eternity". The book is wrapped front and back in champagne coloured handloomed silk dupion fabric, with its characteristic texture and slubby weave.
Sweeping across the front cover is a piece of truly exquisite ivory/palest coffee antique French lace with an unusual leafy-floral design, made in Calais in the early 1920s. The lace is embroidered with ivory coloured cotton thread. The embroidery has been created on a finely woven cotton mesh.
The overall design of this book was inspired by the 1920's flapper girl fashions, which embraced French embroidered lace, decorative silk headbands and rose corsages!
Apologies the crochet lace shown enveloping the spine of the book has now gone, but we will cover the spine with a similarly pretty vintage French cotton lace.
The French lace we've edged with a beautiful 100% pure silk embroidery ribbon, hand painted in delicate varigated hues of dusky pink, moving through blue to faintest teal. To this we've added one of our own handmade roses in champagne coloured handloom silk dupion fabric.
If preferred, you can choose a different colour raw silk dupion rose to harmonise with your wedding colour scheme. Also, you can opt to have a solid colour pure silk ribbon if you wish - for example, ivory or palest champagne pink. Other colours may also be available. Do please feel free to contact us with your colour preference, or add a note at checkout in the box entitled "Any Special Requirements". We will do our best to find the colour silk of your choice.
If you choose the larger size guest book, we will try to find a wider pure silk ribbon in your colour choice. If we can't find a wider ribbon in the appropriate colour, we will incorporate two narrow overlapping ribbons running parallel, as this will look better on the larger size book cover.

Having acquired another small batch of French tulle lace, we are delighted to offer a few more books with the roses design. Like the leafy-floral version shown above, the roses lace was made in Calais in the 1920s and features embroidered roses in soft cotton threads. The colour is a soft cafe au lait shade.
Whichever version of this French lace you'd prefer, the presentation box lid features a panel of unbleached handmade lokta paper - or with lokta and jute fibre paper, according to the materials available when we come to work on your project.
If you opt for the larger size guest book, a border of vintage lace trim is attached all around the outer edge of the presentation box. As we use only vintage textiles, the trim used will vary from one presentation box to another, making each box unique.
Below is an image of both the larger and smaller size box. The smaller box is embellished with a single pressed pink rose, the larger box with two roses. The flowers are sealed with a matte decoupage finishing product designed to protect pressed flowers from the detrimental effects of UV light and humidity, thus helping to preserve the delicate colours for many years.
In the option boxes below, alternatively you can choose to have a pure silk dupion rose and pearls to embellish the box lid - positioned on the left hand corner of the box.
Or, the box can be left plain with no roses.
The high quality guest book has 40 unlined sheets of acid-free, handmade linen paper in pale cream (image immediately below shows larger size book with soft white paper). The front cover of the guest book is padded. The presentation box lid is also padded.
Above is the smaller format guest book with pale cream handmade linen paper sheets, shown against a white wall to depict colour contrast.
The inside of the guest book hard cover, back and front, is embellished with unbleached textured banana fibre paper as shown above.
Size of book: 15 x 23cm (6 x 9.4 inches) with 40 sheets, the box is a little larger.
LARGER SIZE GUEST BOOK OPTION
This design can be transposed to our larger size guest book if preferred. The larger book is heavier in weight, having a padded front cover and 40 handmade linen paper sheets (80 writing sides), colour off-white/pale ivory. With its heavier weight paper, this guest book can be used as a photo album as well.
Dimensions: 20.32cm x 25.5 cm, 8x10 inches, the presentation box is a little larger and has a padded lid.
