This handmade guest book presentation box we've named "Sky Dreamboat". It has a certain shabby chic appeal, featuring an asymmetrical handmade beaded trim which was salvaged from an early vintage evening dress (c.1930s).
Unlike modern beaded dress trims made from faux glass, this is a gorgeous heavyweight piece, comprising hundreds of tiny hand stiched glass beads and metallic threads. The colourway is bluish grey and antique silver. The trim is far more attractive in reality, for the beads and sequins sparkle like moonlight on water.
The book is wrapped front and back in handloom pure silk dupion fabric, with its characteristic texture and slubby weave. The main colour is sky blue, the centre panel being ice blue to complement the beaded trim.
The beaded trim is further embellished with a handmade 100% silk corsage rose in pale pink, together with two naturally shaped freshwater pearls.
Cascading from the rose are curling tendrils of 100% pure silk embroidery ribbon. Silk ribbon is entirely different from the usual cheap polyester ribbons. These are made from super soft silk, hand painted by a textile artist in varigated hues of pale blues and greens moving through tinges of rose pink - the untied strands imparting a sense of flowing movement.
An optional extra: two high quality little art nouveau reproduction butterflies, fashioned from solid brass, using the original dies and antique tooling. The brass has been plated in oxidised sterling silver (oxidised means the silver has been darkened in tone to impart an antique appearance).
The butterfly is a symbol has special significance in relation to weddings, being associated with joy and marital bliss!
The guest book pages are made of slightly textured handmade white linen paper. As this is an artisan paper, it retains occasional bits of plant material, adding to its charm.
Above you can see the inside hardcover of the book embellished with handmade heavily textured banana fibre paper, unbleached.
The presentation box lid is covered in handmade unbleached lokta and jute fibre paper from the Himalyas.
The box lid is edged with vintage lace trim, which will vary according to available stock at a give time.
The box is further embellished with two pressed pink roses gathered from the garden. The roses are sealed with a matte decoupage finishing product to help protect against UV light and atmospheric moisture, thus helping to preserve the delicate colours. Image below shows the large and smaller size boxes - the smaller size box is decorated with a single rose.
The writing sheets of this high quality book are medium weight handmade acid-free linen paper, colour off-white. With its heavier weight paper, this guest book can be used as a photo album as well.
